Grow Team Joins Paint the Town MLK Day of Service
In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the National Day of Service, nearly 30 Grow team members volunteered alongside dozens of other local volunteers at the University Area Community Development Corporation (UACDC) Inc.’s twelfth annual Paint the Town event in Tampa. Our team rolled up its sleeves and helped beautify a local park by painting, raking, planting flowers, sweeping, picking up trash and much more.
Paint the Town shows what can happen when you pair belief with a willingness to invest some sweat equity into transforming your community. Currently, MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service — designed to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. “Growing the Greater Good” is at the heart of our organization’s strategy and culture, and we are beyond proud to see that so many Grow team members celebrated Dr. King by taking the day “on” instead of “off” by serving the community.
Dominique Dearing, Grow’s Vendor Management Compliance Specialist, shared, “It was such a great experience to participate in the Paint the Town event that was held in honor of the profound contributions Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. made to society and community. My daughter and I enjoy doing acts of service in our community, especially in tribute to MLK. When it comes to serving our communities, I often think of the quote, ‘We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.’”
UACDC has championed positive change in the economic, educational and social levels of the community since 1996, with the motto “Growing our community, one block at a time.” It serves through youth programs, adult education, affordable housing, workforce and resource assistance, and community engagement. It seeks to be a fearless champion of University Area residents, empowering people with the essential tools needed to attain better jobs, better health and better futures.
