Growing the Greater Good Through Community Events | January to April 2023

As a local credit union, we take great pride in serving our members and the community around us. We’ve seen firsthand that strong communities are built on a foundation of mutual support and the hard work of so many wonderful people and organizations. Our team is thankful for opportunities to contribute our time, energy and resources to make an impact. Check out what we’ve been up to lately!

Team member volunteer and growth events

Part of our culture at Grow centers around growing the greater good, a simple statement that captures the essence of what we aim to do here. Our team members collectively take this mantra seriously as they work to spread joy and hope through a variety of initiatives. So far this year, team members participated in beautification projects at Paint the Town, helped prepare the next generation of young leaders at the Suit Up & Show Up Leadership Retreat, and volunteered with Peas and Love to create a sustainable garden for low-income residents, just to name a few. Deborah Allen, Cards Administrator, shared more about her experience: “I joined the Peas and Love Gardens event, as I am learning more about food deserts and want to help close that gap. Through this event, I learned more about gardening that I can use on a personal level and share with our community.”

Our team keeps busy when it comes to planning and participating in a wide variety of team building and educational events too. From Dine Out for Diversity events, where team members enjoy food and fellowship at a local business, to our annual Women in Leadership Panel, Grow team members always find ways to learn from and grow with one another. Allen said, “The Dine Out for Diversity events give us an opportunity to spend time with our diverse community of team members while also supporting one of our phenomenal business members. This past month, we went to 7th + Grove in Ybor City, which was great!”

Sponsored community events

As you’d expect from your credit union, we put sponsorship dollars toward benefiting the local areas we serve throughout Tampa Bay and Columbia and Charleston, South Carolina. That means your dollars go directly to the benefit of the membership as a whole and the local communities we serve. (It’s just one part of something we like to call the Credit Union Difference!) We’re a proud sponsor of numerous community events, including Synapse Florida, Bark in the Park, River O’ Green, the Florida Strawberry Festival, the Flowertown Festival, the Celebrate Birthdays Cupcake Crawl, Tampa Pride and the USF Bulls Business Community networking event, among many others.

The person responsible for our ability to cultivate such strong community partnerships is Allen Milliron, Director of Credit Union Sponsorships. He shared, “The heart of Grow really is community service and community relationships. It’s a pleasure to cultivate relationships with other local organizations and meet individuals who are doing truly extraordinary work in the community. We always look forward to interacting with members and community members at each and every event.”
