Volunteers, Grow Financial Foundation & Friends of U.S. Military Families Help Veterans

The Grow Financial Foundation and Friends of US Military Families, Inc., joined forces with Habitat for Humanity to provide help for veterans. On Tuesday, November 9, volunteers gathered to assist two local Army veterans with upkeep on their home, including exterior painting, landscaping and related projects.

Veterans Helping Veterans

Some of the volunteers from our team at Grow Financial included Kent Paro, VP of Operations, and Steve Shiver, Senior Programmer Analyst. The cause of helping veterans is especially close to their hearts, both being veterans themselves. Paro said, “The bond that exists between veterans is real and providing support to Habitat Hillsborough’s 2021 Veterans Week of Service is something I’m naturally drawn to. It gives me tremendous pride and joy, and I’m happy to see so many others getting to know our local veterans and helping them out.”

About the decision to volunteer at this event, Shiver said, “I try never to miss a chance to help my military family. Volunteering with causes that support veterans is my way of giving back to my former team. In general, it’s important for everyone to serve their community and get involved. We are remembered by the acts of kindness in our lifetimes, not our grand achievements.”

As an organization founded on MacDill Air Force Base, Grow Financial considers supporting veterans and active-duty personnel to be essential to fulfilling our mission. Shiver described the overall culture of volunteerism at Grow, remarking, “Grow Financial’s history of nurturing volunteerism in its team members and supporting veteran causes is one of the things that influenced my decision to work here.” Grow is a founding donor of Friends of U.S. Military Families, which has provided scholarships to students from military families, seeing-eye dogs to visually impaired veterans, financial assistance to active-duty personnel and their dependents, and aid for the recovery of wounded warriors.
