King of the Coop founder Joe Dodd was struck by a bolt of inspiration the moment he bit into his first piece of Nashville hot chicken. The tenderness of the chicken, the heat of the Carolina Reaper peppers … all of it combined into a dish that made him realize he needed to start a restaurant. Thus, his dream of founding King of the Coop was born. His restaurant now proudly wears the crown of Creative Loafing’s “Best Of The Bay” award for fried chicken. This week they’re offering a royal feast: their tender box, featuring three jumbo tenders seasoned “hot or not,” served with sauce, pickles, fries and potato bread.
